Characteristics of Agape #10: Love Does Not Delight In Evil But Rejoices With The Truth

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres .8 Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)

Love celebrates the virtues of others and not their vices.

By walking in love, the believer becomes more and more like God. His attitudes, actions and desires continue to align more and more to the nature of God as he endeavors to love others in the same way that God loves them. As a result, the believer in walking in love naturally hates sin just like God does.

God hates sin. He doesn’t hate the sinner, he just totally hates sin. God’s hatred for sin and His love for sinners were the driving force behind His decision to send His only begotten son to become sin for all mankind so that in turn all of mankind could become free from sin and righteous before Him (John 3:16, 2 Cor 5:21).

The ungodly enjoys sin and rejoices in it. Since he is deceived by the fleeting pleasures of sin (Heb 11:25), the ungodly enjoys his sin, and even rejoices in seeing others fall into sin. However the exact opposite is the case with agape ruled believer. A believer who allows the love of God to rule his or her thoughts and actions never rejoices in evil, falsehood or sin but instead grieves over it (Phil 1:14-18).

Even when his enemy sins and is found guilty of sin, love does not enjoy seeing his enemy commit sin neither does he enjoy telling others about his enemy’s sin. On the contrary, the agape-ruled believer because of the love of God within him, grieves over the sin of even his enemy and desires that their sin be forgiven and forgotten.

Love never celebrates sin but celebrates the truth of God’s word all the time.

In addition, love rejoices when God’s word prevails. Because love causes a person to think and act like God, the agape-ruled believer always chooses righteousness. God’s word is the truth and the man or woman that is ruled by the God-kind of love is forever excited when truth triumphs over falsehood. Love does not shy away from the truth for fear of being criticized for siding with the truth. No way! Love joyfully chooses the way of righteousness in all things and at all times.

If you’re a believer, you’re a lover – a lover of God, all men and of God’s ways so boldly declare the following;

“The love of God has been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Ghost. I shall endeavor to let that love nature dominate me. I have God’s love nature in my heart – in my spirit. Therefore, I’ll not let my natural reasoning dominate me. I refuse to allow the flesh to rule me. I’m going to walk in the Spirit by walking in love.

I am a lover not a hater.

I will practice and exercise the fruit of love so that it can grow and increase. …….I will make the love of God my great quest in life, for then my love shall abound, and God shall reap the glory.

N.B. The above confession is an excerpt from Rev Kenneth Hagin’s book : ‘LOVE: The way to victory’.
