Characteristics of Agape #13: Love ALWAYS Hopes

SLIDE-1-HOPE-31

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres .8 Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)

From what place does love find the strength to always expect a favourable outcome even in the midst of challenges and difficulties? It finds it from within itself! God who is love is Himself also our hope because, Christ in us is our hope of glory (Col 1:27). Romans 5:5 gives us even more assurance of this truth;

“and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy spirit which was given to us.”

Romans 5:5 (NASB)

The love of God within us is the reason for our hope. But this hope isn’t a form of wishful thinking or unrealistic expectation. Instead, it is an unwavering confidence in a glorious future outcome which itself is rooted in an understanding of;

  • How much God loves us and
  • The unlimited greatness of God’s power in us who believe 😀

5

God showed His love for us even when we were yet sinners by sending Christ to die for our sins even when we ourselves didn’t realize we needed him to make such a sacrifice (Rom. 5:8). Yet, not only did Christ pay the ultimate price for our sins, he restored us to an enviable position of honour and glory in God (Eph. 2:6-7).

The believer who lives out the love of God in everyday life, is always hopeful because he/she remembers all that Christ has done in and for us who believe. Not only have we been made MORE THAN CONQUERORS (Romans 8:37) over life’s trials and challenges, Christ has also made us more than conquerors over death by giving us eternal life? Do you see that? We’ve already won! We’ve already got the victory! We’ve got the victory over lack, sickness, occult powers and death. That’s why we can always have hope, no matter what.

That difficulty in your marriage isn’t too big for God to solve. Just have hope and let that hope serve as the raw material for your faith. That difficulty in your life, your health or your business isn’t beyond God’s ability. If you would only search scripture you would see that all that you need right now, God has already provided for we who are in Christ. So don’t despair. Choose to hope. Choose to hope in the hope that’s living inside of you, because love ALWAYS hopes.

Please join me in saying this confession:

“The love of God has been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Ghost. I shall endeavor to let that love nature dominate me. I have God’s love nature in my heart – in my spirit. Therefore, I’ll not let my natural reasoning dominate me. I refuse to allow the flesh to rule me. I’m going to walk in the Spirit by walking in love.

I am a lover not a hater.

I will practice and exercise the fruit of love so that it can grow and increase. …….I will make the love of God my great quest in life, for then my love shall abound, and God shall reap the glory.

N.B. The above confession is an excerpt from Rev Kenneth Hagin’s book : ‘LOVE: The way to victory’.
